Verse 1-47

सञ्जय उवाच |

एवमुक्त्वार्जुन: सङ्ख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् |

विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानस: || 47 ||

“Sanjaya said, “Having spoken thus, Arjuna sat down in the chariot in the midst of the army, casting aside his bow with arrows, his mind overwhelmed with grief.”

 

Commentary

Sanjaya, who narrates the events on the battlefield to King Dhritarashtra, describes the reaction of Arjuna after expressing his inner turmoil and moral dilemma. As the weight of Arjuna’s words settled upon his shoulders, his physical posture mirrored the burden of his soul. The once mighty warrior now sat in the chariot, defeated not by external foes but by the internal conflict that raged within him.
