Verse 10-34

मृत्यु: सर्वहरश्चाहमुद्भवश्च भविष्यताम् |

कीर्ति: श्रीर्वाक्च नारीणां स्मृतिर्मेधा धृति: क्षमा || 34 ||

“I am all-devouring death, and I am the origin of future beings. Among feminine qualities, I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness, and forgiveness.” 
 
Commentary:

Lord Krishna continues to reveal his divine manifestations, highlighting his presence and significance in various aspects of existence and human qualities.

 

Mṛtyuḥ sarvaharaśhcha aham: Lord Krishna declares that he is Mṛtyu, the all-devouring death. He represents the inevitable cycle of life and death, where all beings ultimately return to him. Lord Krishna emphasizes his authority and control over the process of death, signifying the impermanence of material existence and the need to transcend it.

 

Udbhavaśhcha bhaviṣhyatām: Lord Krishna states that he is the origin of future beings. He is the source from which all future generations and forms of life arise. Lord Krishna encompasses the creative aspect of existence, indicating his role in the cycle of birth and rebirth.

 

Kīrtiḥ śrīr vāk cha nārīṇām: Among feminine qualities, Lord Krishna identifies himself as kīrti (fame), śrī (prosperity), and vāk (speech). He represents the divine essence and embodiment of these qualities. Kīrti refers to the recognition and renown one receives for their virtuous actions. Śrī signifies material and spiritual abundance, including wealth, beauty, and auspiciousness. Vāk symbolizes the power of speech, communication, and expression.

 

Smṛtiḥ medhā dhṛtiḥ kṣhamā: Lord Krishna further reveals his presence in the qualities of smṛti (memory), medhā (intelligence), dhṛti (steadfastness), and kṣhamā (forgiveness). Smṛti refers to the faculty of memory, which allows one to retain knowledge and experiences. Medhā represents intelligence, wisdom, and discernment. Dhṛti signifies mental and emotional stability, determination, and courage. Kṣhamā is the virtue of forgiveness, compassion, and patience.

 

By highlighting these manifestations, Lord Krishna reveals his connection to the fundamental aspects of human existence and qualities. He is the embodiment of death, the origin of future life, and the divine essence behind feminine virtues. He represents fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness, and forgiveness.
