Verse 11-18

त्वमक्षरं परमं वेदितव्यं

त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् |

त्वमव्यय: शाश्वतधर्मगोप्ता

सनातनस्त्वं पुरुषो मतो मे || 18 ||

“You are the imperishable and supreme to be known,
You are the ultimate abode of the entire universe.
You are the unchanging, eternal upholder of righteousness,
You are the eternal Being, as per my understanding.”
 
Commentary

Arjuna acknowledges and glorifies the divine nature of Lord Krishna. He recognizes Krishna as the ultimate truth and the supreme reality that needs to be realized and understood.


Arjuna affirms that Krishna is ‘aksharam paramam’, the imperishable and supreme truth. Krishna embodies the highest knowledge and wisdom, which goes beyond the perishable material world. He is the ultimate object of knowledge and the ultimate goal of spiritual seekers.


Krishna is described as the ‘vishvasya param nidhanam’, the supreme refuge or ultimate abode of the entire universe. He is the source, sustainer, and the ultimate destination of all beings and the cosmos itself. All of creation finds its ultimate resting place in Krishna.


Arjuna recognizes Krishna as ‘avyayah’, the unchanging and eternal. While everything in the material world is subject to change and decay, Krishna remains eternal and unaffected by the passing of time. He is the unchanging reality behind the ever-changing world.


Krishna is referred to as ‘shāshwatadharmagopta’, the eternal upholder of righteousness. He protects and maintains the eternal principles of righteousness and moral order. Krishna ensures the preservation of dharma (righteousness) in the world, upholding the laws that govern the universe.


Finally, Arjuna acknowledges Krishna as the ‘Sanātan Purusha’, the eternal Being. Krishna exists beyond the limitations of time, birth, and death. He is the timeless and eternal consciousness that pervades all existence.
