“The result of virtuous actions performed in the mode of goodness is pure and beneficial. The result of actions performed in the mode of passion is characterized by pain and the result of actions performed in the mode of ignorance is ignorance itself.”
Commentary Lord Krishna explains the consequences of actions performed in different modes of nature. Actions performed in the mode of goodness, or sattva, are considered virtuous and righteous. Such actions are motivated by selflessness, compassion, and a desire for the well-being of others. The result of these actions is pure and beneficial, leading to positive outcomes and spiritual growth.
Actions performed in the mode of ignorance, or tamas, arise from delusion, laziness, and lack of awareness. Such actions are characterized by ignorance, confusion, and a disregard for spiritual truths. The result of these actions is further ignorance and a deepening of the darkness of consciousness.
The Lord highlights the importance of understanding the nature of one’s actions and their corresponding results. He encourages individuals to cultivate sattva, transcend the lower modes of nature, and strive for actions that promote spiritual well-being, knowledge, and inner growth. By understanding the nature of different modes and their effects, individuals can make conscious choices that align with their spiritual development and lead to ultimate liberation.
