“As the embodied Self in the body passes through childhood, youth, and old age, so is its passage into another body; the wise therefore are not disturbed.”
Commentary
Lord Krishna highlights the impermanence and transitory nature of the physical body. The body goes through inevitable changes as time passes, transitioning from one stage to another. Similarly, when the physical body reaches the end of its lifespan, the soul moves on to a new body.
However, Krishna emphasizes that the wise individuals, the enlightened ones, do not get bewildered or deluded by this process. They understand the eternal nature of the soul, its continuity beyond physical death, and the concept of reincarnation. They recognize that the soul is distinct from the temporary physical form and remains unaffected by the cycle of birth and death.
By explaining the cyclical nature of life and the soul’s transmigration, Krishna encourages Arjuna and all seekers of truth to develop a broader perspective beyond the ephemeral nature of the physical body. He invites us to recognize the eternal essence within ourselves and to cultivate spiritual wisdom that transcends the fluctuations of the material world.
