Verse 3-41

तस्मात्त्वमिन्द्रियाण्यादौ नियम्य भरतर्षभ |

पाप्मानं प्रजहि ह्येनं ज्ञानविज्ञाननाशनम् || 41||

“Therefore, O best of the Bharatas, first bring the senses under control and then slay this enemy called desire, the sinful destroyer of wisdom and realization.”

Commentary

If indriyas, manas and buddhi are dwelling places of desire, what is beyond them? Wisdom of the soul. How does that space feel? The first entry point into that space is with intuition.

Try to answer yes or no to below questions:

-Do you need senses to know that you exist? Eg. when eyes or ears are closed.

-Do you need to experience likes, dislikes, attachments and repulsions in order to know that you exist?

-Do you need strong evidence of some cause and effect to prove that you exist?

The three questions above are related to indriyas, manas and intellect respectively. If the answer to all the questions is no, then you can get a sense of the space that is beyond. We intuitively know that we exist. This intuitive space within is untouched by indriyas, manas, buddhi as well as three gunas. When focus and attention is kept for a long time in this intuitive space, wisdom (gnyanam) sprouts. With this wisdom, indriyas can be controlled.

The deeper a devotee experiences the intuitive divine space, the more desire loses its grip. Slowly inner wisdom manifests in layers after layers.
