“Those who restrain the faculties of action, while continuing to dwell on sense objects in the mind are called hypocrites who delude themselves”.
Commentary
Hypocrisy is a practice where a person does not conform his own behavior to his claims of moral standards and beliefs. Outward restraint with inward dwelling of the mind on sense objects, events or people, that especially feed tamasic qualities of ego is detrimental to well-being. There are many ways in which the ego expresses this quality, knowingly or unknowingly, in subtle ways. If one is not alert or guided properly, it can lead to suffering in the end.
God’s presence can be felt within the faculty of conscience. When senses are calm, conscience can be trained so that it becomes the guiding light of discrimination, whispering immediately and intuitively whether one is right or wrong. Daily practice will then develop the habit of self-observation and deep contemplation, sprouting the seeds of wisdom.
