“Those who partake the nectar like remnants of sacrifice, advance toward the Absolute Truth. O best of the Kurus, those who perform no sacrifice find no happiness in this world.”
Commentary:
Every step of evolution and positive change requires sacrifice. To succeed in any kind of work, learn new skills or new habits, the old habits and thought processes need to be sacrificed into the fire of discipline. The sweet results of success that arise from the flames of self-discipline further motivate the devotee toward more milestones and goals.
The devotee who aspires to feel God’s presence must first learn to love and practice silence. This requires sacrifice of all desires of the senses – good and bad – into the flaming energy of self-control. The mind belongs to the surface and it gives excellent reasons to protect habits and ego. It says, “just another sip, just another drink, just another movie, another song, another task on the to-do list”. At the end, you are tired because your cells have consumed energy to perform all those tasks. After a busy day, the body cells can relax only when there are spiritual chants or when there is complete silence. The cells continue to work if senses are continuously active. Calm the movement of the eyes by focusing on any point in front then take deep and long breaths. Slowly the energy withdraws from sensory nerves and then you can utilize your will power to guide this energy inward to the source of fire that lights up everything with life.
