“Others, through the sacrifice of knowledge, worship me and contemplate me as the One, as separate, and as the all-pervading universal form.”
Commentary: Lord Krishna acknowledges that there are different paths of worship and approaches to spiritual realization. He describes how some devotees engage in the “yajna” (sacrifice) of knowledge and worship him in various ways.
Sacrifice of Knowledge: Some seekers pursue the path of knowledge (jnana) as their means of worship. They strive to understand the nature of reality, the self, and the divine through deep contemplation, study of scriptures, philosophical inquiry, and seeking the truth through intellectual and intuitive insights. This pursuit of knowledge is considered as a form of worship, where they offer their intellectual faculties to understand the divine.
Worshiping with Different Perspectives: These devotees contemplate and perceive the divine in different ways:
Ekatvena: They perceive the divine as the ultimate unity, recognizing the oneness of all existence. They understand that the divine is the singular reality behind the apparent diversity and see the underlying unity in everything.
Prithaktvena: They perceive the divine as separate and distinct from the world. They recognize the transcendence of the divine and maintain a sense of reverence and separateness in their worship.
Bahudha Vishvatomukham: They perceive the divine as the all-pervading universal form, present in every aspect of creation. They see the divine manifesting in diverse forms and experiences, and thus, their worship encompasses the entire universe.
These different perspectives and approaches to worship represent the diversity of seekers and their individual spiritual paths. Lord Krishna emphasizes that all these approaches, when pursued with sincerity and devotion, lead to the worship and realization of the divine.
This verse highlights the inclusive nature of spirituality, acknowledging that there are various valid paths to connect with the divine. It emphasizes that different seekers have their unique ways of understanding and experiencing the divine, and their worship, whether through knowledge or different perspectives, ultimately leads them to the realization of the divine presence.
