Verse 2-16

नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सत: |

उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभि: || 16 ||

“Of the unreal, there is no existence. Of the real, there is no non-existence. The final truth of both is known by men of wisdom”.

Commentary

In this world, the physical forms are temporary and illusory. Like waves dancing in the vast ocean, they come and go, but the ocean remains unchanged below.

The eternal truth is divided into two – the Sat (the true, eternal) and the Asat (the unreal, impermanent) or the ever-changing nature of creation. The external senses perceive the Supreme Truth as material objects, but only the wise, with a stable and discriminating mind, grasp the essence of all things, distinguishing the unreal from the real.

The sages experience the manifested creation as unreal, and through inner contemplation, a discerning soul comprehends the essence of both the Asat (the unreal) and the Sat (the real) in its true essence.
