Verse 1-20

अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान् कपिध्वज: |

प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डव: ||20||

हृषीकेशं तदा वाक्यमिदमाह महीपते |

“At that time, Arjuna, the son of Pāndu, who had Hanuman as the emblem on his flag, seeing the sons of Dhritarashtra drawn in military array, spoke the following words to Lord Krishna.”

 

Commentary

Arjuna, the Pandava prince prepared himself for the imminent confrontation. He saw the warriors from both sides, including his own relatives, friends, and revered elders, positioned and ready for battle.

 

The phrase “pravritte shastra-sampate” indicates that the battle is about to commence. Arjuna, recognizing the gravity of the situation, readied his bow and arrow, showing his preparedness for combat and spoke to Lord Krishna as follows.
