“O Achyuta, please place my chariot between the two armies so that I may observe those who stand here in this great battle.”

“For I wish to see those who are assembled here to fight, and with whom I must engage in this war.”

Commentary

Arjuna, addressing Lord Krishna as Achyuta, the infallible one, makes a request. He asks Krishna to position his chariot in the middle of the battlefield, between the two opposing armies. By doing so, Arjuna intends to observe the warriors from both sides who have gathered there with the intention to fight in the upcoming battle. This indicates his sense of responsibility as a warrior to know and understand his opponents.

Arjuna also seeks to evaluate the strength and capabilities of the warriors who have assembled for battle. He wants to identify the fighters who are aligned against him and determine with whom he will engage in combat. This shows his earnestness and his willingness to participate fully in the forthcoming war.

Arjuna’s request to Krishna to position his chariot in the middle of the armies reflects his readiness to face the reality of war. It also signifies his commitment to fulfill his duty as a warrior.
