Some are filled with fear, offering salutations,
While the great sages and perfected beings,
Proclaim “All is well” and sing hymns of praise with auspicious words.”
Arjuna describes the response of celestial beings, sages, and perfected individuals upon witnessing the divine form of Lord Krishna.
Arjuna observes that various surasangha, the groups of celestial beings or gods, enter into Krishna’s form. It signifies their recognition and acceptance of Krishna’s divine supremacy. Some of them are filled with fear and reverence, expressing their devotion and offering ‘prānjalayah’, salutations with folded hands. They acknowledge Krishna’s awe-inspiring nature and approach Him with humility and respect.
On the other hand, maharshis, great sages, and siddha-sangha, the perfected beings, proclaim swasti, meaning “all is well” or “auspiciousness,” upon witnessing Krishna’s divine form. They possess deep spiritual insight and understanding, recognizing the ultimate truth and divine harmony in Krishna’s manifestation. They offer ‘sthutibhih’, hymns of praise and sthuti, with words that are filled with purity and auspiciousness. Their hymns celebrate Krishna’s divine attributes and express their reverence and admiration for Him.
The verse highlights the contrasting reactions of different beings to Krishna’s divine form. Some are filled with awe and fear, recognizing His transcendence, while others experience a profound sense of peace and well-being, perceiving the divine order and perfection embodied by Krishna.
The response of the celestial beings, sages, and perfected individuals reflects the diversity of experiences and perspectives in the face of the divine. It illustrates the profound impact of Krishna’s divine presence on beings of different levels of consciousness and spiritual attainment. While some are humbled and offer reverence, others are filled with bliss and express their adoration through hymns and words of praise.
