“He who is equipoised in pleasure and pain, steadfast, self-controlled, and regards a clod of earth, a stone, and gold as equal”
“He who is unaffected by praise or blame, who treats friend and foe alike, who has forsaken all undertakings—such a person is said to have transcended the modes of material nature.”
Commentary In these verses, Lord Krishna describes the characteristics of a person who has transcended the modes of material nature and attained a state of equanimity and spiritual elevation.
The enlightened person described here is one who remains undisturbed and balanced in both pleasure and pain. They maintain a sense of equanimity, not allowing external circumstances to sway their inner stability. Their happiness and well-being are not dependent on external factors but are rooted in their own self.
Such individuals are steadfast and self-controlled, demonstrating strong determination and discipline. They are not easily swayed or influenced by the external world. They have cultivated inner strength and self-mastery, enabling them to navigate through life’s challenges with composure.
