Verse 18-43

शौर्यं तेजो धृतिर्दाक्ष्यं युद्धे चाप्यपलायनम् |

दानमीश्वरभावश्च क्षात्रं कर्म स्वभावजम् || 43 ||

“Courage (valor), energy (vigor), steadfastness (perseverance), skillfulness (dexterity), including the ability to fight and stand firm in battle (resoluteness), generosity (charity), and the attitude of being a leader (lordship) are all traits that naturally arise from the Kshatriya (warrior) class.”

Commentary

These qualities are inherently present in individuals belonging to the Kshatriya varna. Courage signifies bravery and courage, which are the primary qualities of warriors. Energy represents strength, energy, and influence, which enable warriors to be agile and impactful. Steadfastness, or perseverance, demonstrates the ability to endure and maintain mental strength, which is essential for warriors. Skillfulness, or dexterity, showcases proficiency and aptitude, making it possible for warriors to be up-to-date and influential in their endeavors.

 

The attributes of generosity, the attitude of being a leader, and a sense of service arise from the Kshatriya nature. Generosity involves acts of charity and benevolence, while the attitude of being a leader reflects the willingness to serve and guide others. These qualities are distinctively evident among individuals of the warrior class.
