Commentary
As an individual, you have essentially one consciousness. If someone asks who you are, obviously you will point to yourself and say your name. This is possible when you are in wakeful state. There are three primary states of the mind: wakeful state, dream state and dreamless state. One consciousness is manifesting in three different states. All these states are supported and sustained by your own consciousness. Everything you dream belongs to you alone and there is nothing more that you need to gain in your own dream. Your existence is not dependent on your dream and if you had the power, then you could either dream or not dream.
In the same way, God as cosmic consciousness is the true sustainer of all the three worlds – wakeful, dreaming and dreamless states, correlating to the physical, astral and causal worlds. Physical world consists of matter, forces of electro-magnetism and atomic interactions. Astral world consists of mind, intelligence, wisdom, feelings and the power of ego or individualized relativity. Astral self exists in dream states. Causal world is the dreamless domain consisting of ingredients that make consciousness.
The entire creation including stones, metals, flowers, animals and humans, is in one of these states at any point of time. God is asleep in stones, dreaming in flowers, awake in animals and humans but knows Himself in a self-realized saint. Using a crescograph, Dr. Jagadish Chandra Bose showed different emotional states of a tin metal. The instrument showed rapidly fluctuating waves when a knife was brought near but when chloroform was applied to the metal, the oscillations slowed down significantly. God is present in every atom and there is nothing more for Him to gain in His own creation but He still performs His duties of maintaining order by diligently managing the laws of science and karma.
