“Arjuna, as the ignorant people perform actions with attachment and hope of reward, so the wise should act with dispassionate nonattachment, to serve gladly as a guide to lead people on the right path”

Commentary

Man’s life is largely goal-oriented with a will to pursue one goal after the other. It is a worthwhile process to embark on a path to a noble goal. Once a goal is created and visualized, the entire focus should be on the activities that lead to the goal, not on the goal itself. Attachment to goals and results will only produce hopes and fears.

Wise people focus all their energies to make use of the present situation. They dream, then envisage the likely future consequences of their present actions and start sowing the seeds of success. They neither wish nor wait for the goals to manifest. The wise work continuously, calmly and joyfully knowing with certainty that in the end, the result will be either success or a lesson to learn.
