“O Arjuna, Karma does not bind those who have renounced actions in the fire of yoga, whose doubts have been dispelled by knowledge, and who are established in the knowledge of the Self.”
“Therefore, O scion of Bharata, arise! With the sword of wisdom, crush the doubts that have arisen in your heart and establish yourself in Karma yoga!”
Commentary:
Binding actions are compulsive habits that form karmic memories. Although the conscious mind may forget, the impressions are formed in the subconscious mind. These impressions follow the soul in every birth. Attachments to people, things, past, future and all sense-pleasures bind a person to the material world. Most of the attachments to sense pleasures decrease, melt away or have to be avoided as one becomes older.
Body and mind work together to create such strong impressions on the consciousness. The body craves for the pleasures and the mind develops attachment. You want to be immortal and and permanently happy but the power of Maya deceives you to think that you are the temporary body and mind.
The realized saint is untainted by any such karmic memory of good and bad. He performs actions that are required as per God’s plan. Devoid of all personal desires, his mind and body become absolutely calm, becoming the instruments of God’s thoughts and feelings.
Life is a challenge given by Nature to arouse your soul’s power to gain absolute control over your being and establish firmly in your real Self. To strive and touch your own immortal divinity is the original task given by God.
