Verse 5-16

ज्ञानेन तु तदज्ञानं येषां नाशितमात्मन: |

तेषामादित्यवज्ज्ञानं प्रकाशयति तत्परम् || 16 ||

“But for those whose ignorance is destroyed by divine wisdom, the Supreme God is revealed, just as the sun illumines everything when it rises”

Commentary: The previous verse states that mankind is drowned in ignorance but whenever a devotee rises with great will power and discipline to meet his Creator, wisdom slowly awakens like the beautiful sun rise in the morning.

People seek to achieve millions of small desires spread like the stars in the sky. If each star is a desire that shines when fulfilled, man is relentless in his pursuit of more star-like desires. Material contentment is important after reasonable achievement however man can never be spiritually content without God. One may pursue a thousand desires like the stars and even achieve great material success like the bright moon amongst the vast stars in the sky, but until the sun of knowledge with its thousand rays rises, the dark night of ignorance and discontentment continues to persist. The only star-desire that guides a man out from the ocean of samsara is the North Star or the Pole star of God. This one desire leads man to the shores of fulfillment where he can experience the supremely shining God.

Prayer:

“God, you are the polestar of my life

Guide the ship of my body and mind,

Lost under the dark starry-night of desires,

Drifting on the turbulent ocean of samsara.

The strong mast of my will-power,

Fails to direct the ship’s sails of my experiences

Fluttering against the winds of temptations,

Rising and falling on the waves of dualities.

Divine God, be the polestar of my life.

Guide my ship to the eternal shores of Bliss,

Where I bathe in the thousand rays of wisdom

Rising forth from Your Being to dispel the dark night.

In the day, I am One with You

In the night, I become Your little polestar

For millions of thirsty sailors seeking You under the dark canopy of desires”
