Verse 7-13

त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभि: सर्वमिदं जगत् |

मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्य: परमव्ययम् || 13 ||

“By these three modes of material nature, this universe is bewildered. The deluded do not understand that I am beyond these modes and imperishable.”

Commentary: Lord Krishna explains how the entire material universe is composed of and influenced by the three modes of material nature: goodness (sattva), passion (rajas), and ignorance (tamas). These modes affect the behavior, mindset, and qualities of all living beings and shape the experiences and conditions of the world.

Lord Krishna points out that those who are deluded or lacking in spiritual knowledge fail to recognize His transcendence beyond these modes. They attribute all aspects of existence solely to the interplay of these modes and remain ignorant of the supreme spiritual reality. They do not realize that He is beyond the modes and unaffected by these influences.

The Supreme Lord is described as “paramavyayam,” meaning inexhaustible or imperishable. He remains eternally unaffected by the modes of material nature and exists in His transcendental nature beyond the material realm. While the modes of material nature are temporary and subject to change, He remains unchanged and eternal.

This verse serves as a reminder that the ultimate truth lies beyond the modes of material nature. It encourages seekers of truth to go beyond the bewildering effects of the modes and strive for a deeper understanding of the eternal, spiritual reality.
