“I am not manifest to everyone, being veiled by the divine illusion. This ignorant world does not recognize Me, the unborn and imperishable.”
Commentary: Lord Krishna explains that His true nature is not visible or comprehensible to everyone. He states that He is concealed by the divine power of illusion or Maya. Due to this veil of illusion, the ignorant people of the world fail to recognize Him as the eternal and unborn reality.
Consider this simple experiment to understand the concept of unmanifested divinity. Close your eyes and feel the darkness within. It is vast and endless, no matter which way you look within it, right? This void inside doesn’t have any shapes or forms; it is formless. Yet, from this formless space, everything gradually takes shape, from the subtle to the tangible. It’s like the birthplace of ideas – be it computers, satellites, or the towering buildings in our cities.
In this enigmatic space, concealed behind closed eyelids, an imperceptible yet potent force finds its dwelling, eluding our ordinary senses. Just as our thoughts emerge from this formless void, so too does creation spring forth from the unmanifested and formless essence of God. It is worth noting that all forms inherently impose limitations, and to permeate all things, one must exist without form – much like air, light, and consciousness, which are boundless and imperishable precisely because they lack form.
Creation, on the other hand, is synonymous with vibration, and vibration signifies birth. However, that which predates creation must dwell in a state devoid of vibration—a realm untouched by birth. This contemplation leads us to the realization that in His pure essence, God exists as Spirit – unborn, imperishable, and eternally unmanifested.
The entirety of creation, governed by the laws of science and karma, emerges as manifestations of this unmanifested divinity, forming the intricate tapestry of existence.
This verse underscores the need for spiritual awakening and knowledge to penetrate the veil of illusion and perceive the true nature of the Supreme. It highlights the importance of transcending worldly delusions and cultivating spiritual wisdom to realize the eternal and imperishable essence of the Divine.
