Verse 7-29

जरामरणमोक्षाय मामाश्रित्य यतन्ति ये |

ते ब्रह्म तद्विदु: कृत्स्नमध्यात्मं कर्म चाखिलम् || 29 ||

“Those who strive for liberation from old age and death, taking refuge in Me, they come to know the Supreme Absolute, the entirety of the spiritual and material worlds, and the complete spectrum of actions.”

Commentary: Lord Krishna speaks about those who seek liberation from the cycle of birth, old age, and death and take refuge in Him. He states that those sincere seekers, who make dedicated efforts to attain freedom from the sufferings of material existence, come to realize the ultimate truth. They come to know the ultimate reality, which is often referred to as Brahman, the Supreme Absolute. They recognize the impermanence and limitations of the material world and the eternal nature of the divine. They also understand the intricate workings of karma, the law of cause and effect, which governs the manifestation of actions in the universe.

Old age and death (jarāmarana) are inevitable aspects of the body’s journey. Therefore, the pursuit of liberation from these conditions necessitates the dissociation of one’s identity from the physical body while still residing within it. Just like you forget that you have a body that is lying down during subconscious dream sleep, it is possible to rise above identification with the body in a superconscious realm, awake in God.

The verse encourages us to strive for liberation and spiritual enlightenment by taking refuge in the divine. By doing so, we gain deep insight into the nature of reality and transcend the cycle of birth and death. Lord Krishna emphasizes the importance of spiritual practice, self-realization, and the liberation of identity from the body to attain comprehensive knowledge and union with the Supreme.
