“I am the divine fragrance in the Earth, the radiant light in the sun and the moon, the life force in all living beings, and the austerity in the ascetics.”
Commentary: Lord Krishna continues to reveal His divine manifestations and attributes to Arjuna. He is the divine fragrance (gandha) present in the Earth. This signifies His subtle essence that permeates the material world, providing a hint of His divine presence and beauty.
The radiant light (tejas) in the sun and the moon, represents His illuminating and majestic aspects. The sun and the moon are symbols of light and splendor, representing Krishna’s identity with these luminous celestial bodies.
Lord Krishna asserts that He is the life force (jivanam) present in all living beings. He is the vital energy that sustains and animates every living creature, symbolizing His role as the source of life and consciousness.
Lastly, Lord Krishna mentions that He is the austerity (tapas) present in ascetics. Tapas refers to spiritual discipline, self-control, and the practice of penance. Lord Krishna identifies Himself with the energy and intensity of those engaged in rigorous spiritual practices.
These manifestations and attributes reveal Lord Krishna’s presence and influence at both the subtle and manifest levels of creation. He is the divine essence that brings beauty, vitality, and spiritual power to the Earth and all living beings.
