Verse 9-2

राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् |

प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम् || 2 ||

“This royal knowledge, the royal secret, the supreme purifier, directly apprehensible, righteous, and imperishable, is capable of bringing profound joy.” 
 

Commentary:

Lord Krishna describes the nature and characteristics of the knowledge He is going to reveal to Arjuna. He refers to it as “raja-vidya” and “raja-guhya,” denoting the king of all knowledge and the most confidential knowledge.


The knowledge being discussed here is not ordinary but a divine one that transcends material understanding. It is referred to as “pavitram,” meaning pure and sacred. This knowledge has the power to purify and uplift the consciousness of the seeker.


Lord Krishna further describes this knowledge as “uttamam,” which means the highest or the supreme. It is unparalleled and surpasses all other forms of knowledge. The verse states that this knowledge is “pratyaksha-avagamam,” which means directly apprehensible or experientially verifiable. It is not based on blind faith or mere intellectual speculation but can be directly perceived and realized by those who seek it with sincerity and purity of heart. It is a practical knowledge that can be directly experienced within oneself.


This knowledge is described as “dharmyam,” implying that it is righteous and in alignment with the eternal principles of righteousness. It guides individuals towards righteous actions and righteous living.


Lord Krishna also emphasizes that this knowledge brings profound joy and happiness. It is not temporary or fleeting pleasure but a deep and lasting sense of contentment that arises from realizing one’s true nature and establishing a connection with the divine.


Lastly, this knowledge is described as “avyayam,” indicating that it is imperishable and eternal. It transcends the limitations of time and remains eternally relevant. It is not subject to decay or deterioration but remains ever-relevant and accessible to those who seek it.
