Commentary

This verse highlights the importance of inner realization and the role of spiritual practice in perceiving the soul. It states that dedicated yogis who strive diligently can perceive the presence of the soul within themselves. Through their sincere efforts, such as meditation, self-discipline, and self-inquiry, they attain a higher level of consciousness and gain direct experiential knowledge of the soul.

However, it also emphasizes that those whose minds are still burdened by impurities and lack spiritual refinement are unable to perceive the soul, even if they make attempts to do so. Their inner obstacles, such as attachment, ignorance, and distractions, hinder their ability to recognize and comprehend the true nature of the soul.

The verse serves as a reminder that merely engaging in external practices or rituals is not sufficient for perceiving the soul. It underscores the significance of purifying one’s mind, cultivating inner clarity, and developing a higher state of consciousness through sincere spiritual endeavors. Only then can one truly behold and comprehend the eternal essence of the soul.
