प्रवृत्तिं च निवृत्तिं च जना न विदुरासुरा: | न शौचं नापि चाचारो न सत्यं तेषु विद्यते || 7 || |

Lord Krishna continues to describe the characteristics of the demonic nature. He explains that those with demonic qualities lack an understanding of righteous action and the importance of abstaining from unrighteous actions. They are ignorant of the principles that govern ethical conduct and moral behavior.
The term “pravritti” refers to engaging in actions that are in accordance with dharma, righteousness, and duty. It encompasses performing actions that contribute to the well-being of oneself and others, guided by moral and ethical principles. Conversely, “nivritti” refers to the renunciation of actions that are unrighteous, harmful, or destructive. It involves restraining oneself from engaging in activities that cause harm to oneself and others.
Lord Krishna highlights that the demonic beings neither comprehend nor follow these principles. They are ignorant of the importance of righteous action and lack the discernment to abstain from unrighteous actions. Their behavior is driven by selfishness, desire, and a disregard for moral values.
The verse states that the demonic beings lack purity (shaucha), which refers to both external cleanliness and inner purity of thoughts and intentions. They do not adhere to proper conduct (āchara), meaning they lack ethical behavior and the observance of social norms and values. Additionally, truthfulness (satya), which encompasses honesty, integrity, and adherence to truth, is absent in their character.
By highlighting these deficiencies in the demonic nature, Lord Krishna emphasizes the contrast between the divine and demonic qualities. The divine nature upholds righteous actions, purity, proper conduct, and truthfulness, while the demonic nature is characterized by ignorance and a lack of adherence to these principles.
This verse serves as a reminder to individuals to cultivate virtuous qualities and align their actions with righteousness. It urges them to develop self-awareness, strive for purity of mind and heart, uphold ethical behavior, and embrace truthfulness in their words and actions.
