Commentary
The phrase “Om Tat Sat” is a sacred utterance that holds deep spiritual significance. Each of these three words represents a different aspect of the Supreme Absolute Truth or Brāhman.

Om: Om is considered the primordial sound, representing the ultimate reality or Brāhman. It is often chanted at the beginning and end of prayers, meditations, and spiritual practices. Om encompasses all sounds and vibrations, symbolizing the unity and interconnectedness of all existence.

Tat: Tat signifies the impersonal aspect of Brāhman. It represents the absolute reality beyond material existence, form, and attributes. Tat signifies the transcendental nature of Brāhman and reminds practitioners to go beyond the limited identification with the body and mind.

Sat: Sat represents the eternal truth, the essence of reality, and the underlying principle of existence. It denotes the divine essence that is unchanging and eternal. Sat also signifies righteousness, virtue, and the adherence to truth in one’s thoughts, actions, and behavior.

In the scriptures, these three words are mentioned as a guidance for the performance of various spiritual practices and rituals. They remind practitioners of the divine nature of the Vedic scriptures (Vedas), the importance of studying and understanding them (Vedāścha), and the significance of performing sacrificial offerings and acts of selfless service (Yajñāścha).

“Om Tat Sat” serves as a reminder of the ultimate reality, the pursuit of knowledge, and the practice of selfless actions in accordance with truth and righteousness. It is a powerful mantra that encapsulates the essence of spiritual wisdom and guides individuals on the path of spiritual growth and realization.
