“With a mind dedicated to the yoga of renunciation, and through the discipline of knowledge, you will free yourself from the bondage of karma, and come to Me.”
Commentary: Lord Krishna assures Arjuna that by practicing the path of renunciation (sannyasa) and cultivating a disciplined and focused mind, he will attain liberation (moksha) and reach the divine realm.
Lord Krishna emphasizes the importance of sannyasa yoga, which refers to the renunciation of the fruits of one’s actions and the surrender of the ego. It is not necessarily about giving up external duties or responsibilities but rather adopting an inner attitude of detachment and selflessness. By performing actions without attachment to the outcomes, one can transcend the cycle of karma and attain liberation.
Lord Krishna assures Arjuna that by practicing sannyasa yoga and acquiring spiritual knowledge, he will be liberated from the bondage of karma and ultimately attain union with the Supreme. This union refers to the realization of one’s inherent divinity and the merging of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness.
The verse implies that the path to liberation involves a combination of self-discipline, selfless action, and spiritual knowledge. By cultivating detachment from the results of actions and realizing the true nature of the Self, one can break free from the cycle of birth and death and attain spiritual liberation.
