Verse 1

"Once again, O mighty-armed Arjuna, listen to My supreme instruction. Out of my love for you, I shall speak beneficial words with the intention of your well-being."

“The celestial gods and even the great sages do not fully comprehend My divine nature and origin. For I am the source and beginning of not only the gods but also the great sages in all respects.”

Verse 3

“One who understands Me as the unborn, beginningless, and supreme controller of the entire universe, such a person, free from delusion, is freed from all sins among human beings.”

“Intelligence, knowledge, non-delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, self-control, calmness, happiness, distress, birth, death, fear, and fearlessness - these various qualities arise from Me as modifications of My consciousness.”

Verse 6

“Seven great sages existed before, as did Primeval Four and fourteen Manus. They were born from My mind and are the progenitors of this world's population.”

Verse 7

"He who truly understands in essence this divine manifestation of Mine and its yoga, becomes firmly united with it without any doubt."

Verse 8

"I am the source of all beings; everything proceeds from Me. Understanding this, the wise with minds absorbed in Me, worship Me with loving devotion."

Verse 9

"With their minds fixed on Me, their lives dedicated to Me, enlightening one another and constantly speaking of Me, they find contentment and delight in Me."

Verse 10

"To those who are constantly devoted and who worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me."

Verse 11

"Out of compassion for them, I, residing in their hearts, destroy the darkness born of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge."

"O Arjuna, both by your physical form and by your words, you have perplexed me. Even the wise are perpetually immersed in the meditation of Me, with minds and lives wholly dedicated to Me."

Verse 14

"O Kesava, I believe all that You have said to be true. O Lord, neither the gods nor the demons fully comprehend Your divine manifestation."

Verse 15

You Yourself, O Supreme Person, know Yourself by Your own Self. O Source of all beings, O Lord of the universe, O God of gods."

Verse 17

"Please tell me in detail of Your divine manifestations, by which You pervade all these worlds. How should I meditate on You? In what forms are You to be contemplated, O Lord?"

Verse 18

"Please explain to me again in detail Your divine powers and glories, O Janardana (Krishna). For, I am never satiated by hearing about Your immortal manifestations."

Verse 19

"Indeed, O best of the Kurus, I shall describe to you some of My divine manifestations, for there is no end to the extent of My divine glories."

Verse 20

"I am the soul, O Arjuna, situated within the hearts of all living beings. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings."

Verse 21

"Among the twelve Adityas, I am Vishnu; among luminous objects, I am the radiant sun. Among the Maruts, I am Marichi, and among the stars, I am the moon."

Verse 22

"Among the Vedas, I am the Sama Veda; among the gods, I am Indra. Among the senses, I am the mind, and among living beings, I am consciousness."

Verse 23

"I am Shankara among the Rudras, I am Kubera among the Yakshas and Rakshasas. Among the Vasus, I am Agni, and among the mountains, I am Meru, the king."

Verse 24

"Know me, O Arjuna, as the chief among priests, Brihaspati. Among the generals, I am Skanda (Kartikeya), and among bodies of water, I am the ocean."

Verse 25

"Among the great sages, I am Bhrgu; among words, I am the one syllable 'Om.' Among sacrifices, I am the sacrifice of silent repetition (japa); among immovable objects, I am the Himalayas."

Verse 26

"Among all trees, I am the Ashvattha (sacred fig tree); among the sages, I am Narada; among the celestial musicians, I am Chitraratha; among the perfected beings, I am Kapila the sage."

Verse 27

"Among horses, know me to be Ucchaihshravas, born from the nectar; among elephants, I am Airavata; and among humans, I am the king."

Verse 28

"Among weapons, I am the thunderbolt (Vajra); among cows, I am the wish-fulfilling cow (Kāmadhenu); among progenitors, I am Kāma, the god of love; among serpents, I am Vasuki."

Verse 29

"And among the nagas (serpents), I am Ananta; among the aquatic beings, I am Varuna; among the ancestors, I am Aryama; and among the controllers, I am Yama."

Verse 30

"And among the demons, I am Prahlada; among the reckoners of time, I am Time itself; among the animals, I am the king of beasts; and among birds, I am Garuda, the son of Vinata."

Verse 31

"Among the purifiers, I am the wind; among wielders of weapons, I am Lord Rama; among fish, I am the shark; and among rivers, I am the Ganges."

Verse 32

"Among creations, I am the beginning, the end, and the middle, O Arjuna. Among sciences, I am the knowledge of the self, and among debates, I am the logical conclusion."

Verse 33

"Among letters, I am the letter 'A,' and among compound words, I am the dual compound. I am also the eternal time, the all-devouring death, and I am the ultimate source of everything."

Verse 34

"I am all-devouring death, and I am the origin of future beings. Among feminine qualities, I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness, and forgiveness."

Verse 35

"Among the hymns of the Sama Veda, I am the Brihat-sama, and among meters, I am the Gayatri. Among the months, I am Margashirsha, and among seasons, I am the flower-bearing spring."

Verse 36

"Among deceptive practices, I am the game of dice (gambling). Among the radiant, I am the splendor. I am victory, I am determination, and I am the goodness of the virtuous."

Verse 37

"Among the Vrishnis, I am Vasudeva. Among the Pāndavas, I am Arjuna. Among the sages, I am Vyāsa, and among poets, I am Usana (Shukracharya)."

Verse 38

"I am the rod of those who punish; I am the righteousness of those desiring victory; among secrets, I am silence, and among the wise, I am knowledge."

Verse 39

"O Arjuna, I am the seed of all beings. There is no being, moving or non-moving, that can exist without Me."

Verse 40

"There is no end to My divine manifestations, O Arjuna. This is just a brief description to give you an idea of My infinite opulences."

Verse 41

"Know that whatever possesses power, brilliance, or extraordinary attributes, it arises from a mere spark of My splendor."

Verse 42

"Or what is the need for you to know this vast array of detailed knowledge, O Arjuna? With a single fragment of Myself, I pervade and support this entire universe."
